故事是从青青与小草，这两位孤女开始的。青青的兄嫂强逼她嫁给一个老头做妾，小草的舅妈对她百般刁难，两个女孩儿不甘受缚于既定的命运，就在青青的婚礼中相协逃走。远赴扬州的傅家庄投靠小草的亲人海爷爷，路上巧遇同样离家出走愤世嫉俗的世家青年何世纬，种种原因令三人决定结伴同行，青青对世纬暗生情愫。到达傅家庄之后，接二连三发生的事件引发了过去的恩怨情仇，小草的身世之谜也有了线索······。Virginie Thévenot, a somewhat special math teacher, takes advantage of a general strike in a college to try an extraordinary experiment with a small group of students.
