But his highly dramatic actress girlfriend thinks he must be dying and that he is just too brave to tell...。本片讲述了中国人民解放军的楷模——张思德的故事。在抗日战争后期，延安正处于热火朝天的大生产运动中。勤务兵张思德为人老实，不善言辞，做好事从不邀功，工作任劳任怨，一心一意为中国革命事业奉献自己。因为一次合唱表演，毛泽东主席注意到了这个憨厚朴实的勤务兵。而后的几次接触中，毛泽东主席给张思德总结了他最大的缺点——不善言辞，同时毛泽东表示这也是他最大的优点。 为了解决中央机关冬季取暖问题，1944 年张思德带领一班人到安塞县烧木炭。在一次烧炭中，炭窑突然崩塌，张思德不幸牺牲。毛泽东主席在他的追悼会上深情地说，我们的队伍里到处是这样的人，普通、平常、像清凉山上的草一样，我们不注意到他们，往往也听不到他们的声音，可正是这些人支撑了我们的事业……。
